Geshe Dadul Namgyal teaches on Madhyamaka

Madhyamaka Through Metaphors

Geshe Dadul Namgyal returns to Knoxville November 17-18 for teachings on “Madhyamaka Through Metaphors”.  presentation will be over three sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, November 17

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and  2:00 – 4:00 PM

Sunday, November 18

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Sunday we will begin with a Short Form and Heart Sutra practice and conclude Geshe Dadul’s presentation.

Madhyamaka (Sanskrit, middle way) refers to the tradition of Buddhist philosophy and practice founded by the Indian philosopher Nāgārjuna (c. 150-250 CE) whose primary work, Fundamental Verses of the Middle Way, addresses the ultimate nature of reality.

In these sessions, Geshe Dadul will address the fundamental view of Madhyamaka which has at its core the concepts of the empty nature of all phenomena and their dependent origination.

Geshe Dadul Namgyal is the senior resident teacher for Drepung Loseling Monastery in Atlanta. He helped us start Losel Shedrup Ling here in Knoxville 25 years ago and came to consecrate our new space in May. It is always a happy occasion when he visits!

Tonglen Practice

Sunday Tonglen Practice

Each Sunday, Taylor Quilty will be leading a weekly Tonglen practice at 6 PM. The sessions will last about an hour and are open to all.

For those not familiar with Tonglen

         གཏོང་ལེན་

Pema Chodron says :

“Tonglen practice, also known as ‘taking and sending,’ reverses our usual logic of avoiding suffering and seeking pleasure. In tonglen practice, we visualize taking in the pain of others with every in-breath and sending out whatever will benefit them on the out-breath. In the process, we become liberated from age-old patterns of selfishness. We begin to feel love for both ourselves and others; we begin to take care of ourselves and others.”

Taylor says :

“I will borrow from metta meditations I have done in the past. Being present with one’s own suffering and sending light, then to a loved one, acquaintance, enemy, and finally all beings.”

Join us for this pure expression of bodhicitta!

Vajrayana Practice and Study Group

Join the Vajrayana Study and Practice Group!

Thursdays at LSLK

6:30 – 8:00 PM

The Thursday night Chenrezi practice will evolve into a Vajrayana study and practice group. We will engage in a variety of Vajrayana practices and discussion topics. Initially, we will be studying Mahamudra using Mingyur Rinpoche’s online Mahamudra course.

https://learning.tergar.org/course_library/vajrayana-online/mahamudra-course-home/

The course is summarized as follows: “In this course we will learn the most important principles and practices of the Mahamudra tradition. Our journey will be based on important texts from the Mahamudra lineage and video teachings from Mingyur Rinpoche on key points of nature of mind practice. The course will also include live webinars with Mingyur Rinpoche and Tergar instructors, discussion forums, an extensive Mahamudra workbook to deepen understanding and experience, and a range of other resources for study and practice.”

The program is open to those who have received both Ngondro transmission and pointing out instructions from a qualified lineage holder of either the Kagyu or Nyingma traditions.

We will begin each session with a short Chenrezi practice then move into a member led discussion based on materials from the online course.
