  3. I’ve been attending the Monday night meditation service for the past three weeks. Last night I believe Dustin (or maybe it was Doug?) mentioned a sit that focuses on overcoming addiction. I’d like more information on this if possible. I look forward to hearing from someone!

    • Hello Pope
      Sorry for the delay.
They meet on Sunday and Wednesday nights at LSLK
      Do you have a preference?
I will contact you with the times soon

  4. Dear friends,

My name is Brad Zockoll and I am on the Bible Faculty here at Grace Christian Academy. On the week of March 5th – 9th I am once again taking a group of twelve students around on a religious survey in Knoxville as a tour of the many faiths of our community.

We would respectfully ask if we might have fifteen minutes of your time as the students take notes in response to some questions about your faith. We are not seeking to debate; this is an information-gathering assignment. There will be pre-arranged questions such as:

    1. When did your place of worship start here in Knoxville?
    2. How many times a week do you meet?
    3. What is your source of authority, both on the Earth and beyond the Earth?
    4. Do you believe in an afterlife?

If you permit, the students may also ask such respectful questions as
“When did you – personally – decide to first enter this ministry?”
“From what institutions did you get your training?”
“What type of music do you use in your services?”

If you might take a moment and show us your place of worship we would greatly appreciate it. We will be respectful and quiet. I will have the proper identification to show and all students will be in uniform.

May we ask if we could have fifteen minutes of your time during the week of March 5-9? Any time between 9 am and 1 pm would be greatly appreciated.

  5. I was hoping for information concerning your meditation schedules and times. I am new to Buddhism, but I would love to learn about meditation and the philosophy of Buddhism

    • Hello Carolyn

If you are interested in meditation, please consider attending the Monday nite meditation group. It starts at 7:00 pm. Arrive early to be sure to get a good seat.

If you are interested in Buddhist philosophy I recommend the Tuesday nite book group. Arrive at 7:45 pm. There is much discussion there.

      Hope to see you soon

  6. I am not sure where to begin. I am interested in learning more about Buddhist traditions and study. I have been reading, but am confused by what the different branches of study involve. I live in Knoxville TN so not sure what my choices are . I am new to meditation, but feel that this would be a calming influence in my daily life. I appreciate any advice you can give me.
    Thanks RJ

    • Hi RJ

It can be confusing. We have a book group that is discussing Buddhism in general right now that you may like to sit in on: Tuesday nites at 7:45 pm. If you want to explore meditation, I think the Insight Meditation group on Monday nites at 7:00 pm may help get you acquainted.

      Kind Regards

  7. I have a Buddhist Temple painting that I purchased in South Korea in 1991. It was painted just after the turn of the 20th century between 1900 and 1905 according to the seller. I am interested in selling it and looking for someone who might be interested. It is tempera on paper.

  8. Hi Tom,

I just wanted to thank you for the warm welcome today at the 11 o’clock service. I wish I could have asked some questions but by the end of the service, I realized that although I thought I knew a little bit about Buddhism, I actually probably know nothing about it- or simply, what I do know is just a tiny scratch on the surface.

I signed up for the ladies sound meditation, it sounds amazing and I can’t wait to attend.

My hope is that I can find time to attend your book group meetings and possibly some of the other classes in order to dig deeper into Buddhism. I am certain meeting with those of you who live and teach Buddhism will be a huge help. So far I’ve only read a few books and listened to audios. Awe, actual human interaction on this will be amazing!

Thank you so much again for the very warm welcome!!!!

    • Hi Michelle

So good to see you today. I know it’s all a little overwhelming at first…I remember my first visit that way.

Look forward to seeing you again soon

  9. Hello,
I am currently attending Tusculum University in Greeneville, TN and I am taking a world religions class. One of our projects is to go to a religious worship session outside of my religion and I would love to experience Buddhism at the Lotus Light Center. I will be attending your Sunday service on November 25th and just wanted to let you know I was coming.
    Thank you!!
    Emily Lawless

    • Hi Emily

Thank you for letting us know. You’re welcome to come! We will be reciting a Medicine Buddha practice at 10 am and a practice for Shakyamumi Buddha (historical Buddha) at 11 am.

I thought I’d let you know we will be hosting monks from the Tashi Kyil monastery in India December 1-2, in case you’re interested. Here’s the link:

We will be posting more detailed information about that soon.

Do you know Jamie Tacket? She attended a few weeks ago.

      Kind Regards,

      Tom Cleland

  10. Hi Tom,

I just wanted to let you know that I will be coming on Novemeber 18th instead of the 25th.

    • Hi Emily

Sorry for the delay…we’ve been working on our website…

The 18th will be great. The monk who helped us start our center will be visiting and teaching. Check out the post on our website. You might look up Madhyamaka and familiarize yourself a little with that.

      See you soon,
